Qualifications for Home Inspector in Los Angeles

Construction Experience:

1987-1993: Construction Supervisor
During this period of time my responsibilities were to oversee the work of several employees of the company. We specialized in residential remodels and Tenant Improvement renovations for commercial offices.

1993-1996: Partner of West Coast Construction. License #748744
As a partner of this company, I became more experienced in the running of a business, but was still very much involved with the construction aspect. We specialized only on residential work which included remodels, additions and new construction from the ground up.

1996-1999: Owner of Neil Ray Construction. License #748744
By 1999 I was ready to run my own business. This was a small company with only a few employees. I was still very much involved with the hands-on construction, but spent alot of time with the clients and city inspectors. This was a great experience which enabled me to better understand the inspection aspect of the city inspectors.

Present: Licensed General Contractor #748744
During the years of running my own construction business, I became very much involved with realtors and their clients who wanted to remodel their new homes. It was also during this time that I was introduced to the home inspection business. In 1999, I started Homespecs Property Inspections and have never looked back. I now inspect properties full time and no longer perform any construction work. I did purchase vacant land in 2002 and built my own home as the general contractor.

Inspection Credentials

Master CREIA Inspector
After joining CREIA in 1999, I decided to expand my education and knowledge. In 2004 I obtained the Master CREIA Inspector certification. This is the highest certification that can be obtained through CREIA. This designation is only given to those home inspectors who have passed both the CREIA membership and ethics qualification exams. A Master Inspector must accumulate over 100 hours of additional training, complete over 1000 inspections and be tested for knowledge above the already high standards set for CCI members of CREIA.

CREIA New Construction Specialist
In 2006 I obtained the next highest certification. This certification is awarded to Certified and Master Inspectors who have received additional education and testing related to new construction inspections.

Qualified Member of ASHI
In 2008 I became a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors. Founded in 1976, ASHI is North America's oldest and most respected professional society of home inspectors.

ICC. Combination Dwelling Inspector #5028249-56
In 2000 I decided to further my education regarding building industry standards and I became certified by
The International Code Council which is a membership association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention. ICC develops the codes and standards used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools.

ICC. Certified Plumbing Inspector # 5028249-30
In 2001, I again realized that education is the best tool to help me best serve my clients. I returned to ICC and obtained another certification.

We encourage all potential clients, to carefully compare the experience and qualifications of inspection companies before you decide who will help you with the purchase of your new property.
